Simon Reads: AI meets humanity Edition

… in work hours

Make yourself some tea, put it in a sippy cup and then strap yourself in for a rollercoaster ride of an article. How to Become a Centaur includes a dash of history a handful of science and a large dose of humour to produce a great primer on the future of AI+Human.

As the author Nicky Case eloquently points out::

When you create a Human+AI team,
the hard part isn’t the ‘AI’.
It isn’t even the Human’..

it’s the ‘+’.”

(You will need to read the article to find out why there’s a pencil tapped to a brick)

… after hours

The Mountain in the Sea was recommended to me by my friend Steph Clarke. Although I don’t think Steph had actually read it at the point of recommendation I probably would have bought it anyway just for the brilliant cover art.

The Mountain in the Sea is a near future sci-fi mashup that explores such topical topics as environmental degradation, advanced AI, and the over-reach of mega-corporations…but with the added bonus of super smart sea creatures. The book squarely sits at the intersection of Black Mirror and My Octopus Teacher, which in my opinion, isn’t a bad intersection to be sitting at.
